Social Planner Public API Adds Community Posting, Member Selection

TL;DR

The Social Planner Public API now allows scheduling and publishing Community posts, including selecting the publishing member.

TL;DR

HighLevel's Social Planner Public API now supports Community posting, including the ability to select which eligible member publishes the post. This is a major update for integration partners but does not require direct action from most agency owners this week.

Who this affects

HighLevel has not confirmed who is affected. However, this update is primarily relevant for developers building integrations with the Social Planner. Agencies using third-party tools that integrate with HighLevel's Social Planner for social media management will likely see enhanced capabilities from those tools in the future.

What changed

The Social Planner Public API has been updated to support Community posting. Integration partners can now programmatically manage and publish posts to Communities.

Key changes include:

  • Integrations can retrieve eligible Community members who can publish posts.
  • Member lists are searchable by name and paginated.
  • Only active, permitted members are returned. For private Communities, only members of that specific group are returned.
  • Integrations can verify a selected member's activity and authorization before scheduling.
  • When creating a Community post via the API, integrations can specify which eligible member should publish it.
  • The Social Planner performs a final eligibility check before publishing posts through the API.
  • If a selected member is ineligible at publish time, the post will fail with an error.
  • The Public API now supports member listing, member validation, scheduling, and publishing for Community posts.

HighLevel has not confirmed any limits or plan gating, nor has it confirmed the rollout status.

Where to find it

HighLevel has published the location as Marketing -> Social Planner -> Settings -> Social Accounts. This refers to where the Social Planner feature itself is configured within the HighLevel platform, not specifically where the API functionality is accessed by end-users. Developers will access this functionality via the Public API documentation.

How agencies will use this

An agency using a custom CRM or a specialized social media management platform could now integrate that platform more deeply with HighLevel. For instance, if an agency manages social media for a client with a large Facebook Group (a Community), they could use their preferred external tool to draft, schedule, and approve posts. When ready, the external tool would use the updated Social Planner Public API to send the post to HighLevel, specifically designating an approved community manager's HighLevel account to publish the post. This ensures brand consistency and proper attribution, even if the primary social media manager in the external tool is not the designated publisher within HighLevel. The external tool could also programmatically check if the designated publisher is still active and authorized within HighLevel before attempting to publish, preventing failed posts.

Our take

This is a major update for developers building integrations with HighLevel, as indicated by HighLevel's own assessment. For the average agency owner, this is not something that requires immediate action. It expands the capabilities of third-party tools that integrate with HighLevel's Social Planner. If you rely on external social media management platforms that connect to HighLevel, expect to see more robust Community posting features rolled out by those platforms over time. For now, it's a behind-the-scenes improvement to the API infrastructure.
