Community Content Moderation & Improved Search

TL;DR

Go HighLevel introduced automated content moderation with keyword flagging and improved community search functionality.

Community Content Moderation & Improved Search

TL;DR

HighLevel now offers content moderation tools for Communities, including keyword flagging and member reporting. This update also brings improved search functionality for posts and comments. Agencies managing client communities should review the new moderation settings.

Who this affects

This update affects agency owners and SaaS entrepreneurs who use the Communities feature within HighLevel. It is relevant for those who host or manage client communities. Anyone not using the Communities feature can safely disregard this update. HighLevel has not confirmed who specifically is affected regarding plan level or sub-account setup.

What changed

HighLevel has introduced several new features for Community content moderation and search.

For Content Moderation:

  • Admins can now define specific words, phrases, or domains to flag within community content.
  • Posts and comments that match these flagged keywords are automatically held for administrative review.
  • Keyword matching is case-insensitive, ensuring broad coverage.
  • A starter pack of common spam and scam phrases is included as a suggestion.
  • A 'Try your rules' tool allows administrators to test moderation rules with sample text.
  • Flagged content appears in a dedicated 'Needs review' tab for admins.
  • Admins can identify which specific keyword triggered a flag.
  • Admins have the ability to preview flagged content before acting.
  • Options are available to 'Approve & publish' or 'Remove' flagged content.
  • Content that has been flagged remains invisible to the community until an admin approves it.
  • Member-reported posts and comments are now visible in a 'Reported by members' tab.
  • Admins can see the specific member who reported content.
  • Admins can choose to 'Keep' or 'Remove' member-reported content.
  • Authors of posts that are pending review will see an 'In review' status on their timeline.
  • Admins receive notifications via email, in-app, and push alerts when content is flagged.
  • Content originating from admins and owners is exempt from these moderation rules.

For Post & Comment Search:

  • The search functionality for posts and comments now accounts for typos, different phrasing, synonyms, and non-English or accented text.
  • Search results are now ranked by relevance, rather than the previous newest-first order.

HighLevel has not confirmed any limits or plan gating associated with these features. HighLevel has also not confirmed the rollout status of these features.

Where to find it

Content Moderation settings can be found at Settings → Content Moderation within the HighLevel platform. The improved Post & Comment Search will be accessible wherever community posts and comments are searched.

How agencies will use this

An agency managing a client's online community might set up moderation rules to automatically catch spam. For instance, they could add common unsolicited promotion phrases or competitor website domains to the flagged keyword list. When a new community member attempts to post a link to a competitor's site or a spammy offer, the post will be automatically held in the 'Needs review' tab. The community manager receives an in-app notification, reviews the post, sees which keyword triggered the flag, previews the content, and then removes it before it ever becomes visible to the rest of the community. This maintains a clean and relevant community environment without constant manual monitoring.

Our take

This update is major. It addresses a significant pain point for agencies managing client communities, allowing for proactive content management rather than reactive cleanup. The moderation tools reduce the burden of manual oversight, and the search improvements enhance usability. This is a practical improvement for agencies providing community management services.
