HighLevel Workflows Block Publishing Broken Automations

TL;DR
HighLevel workflows now prevent publishing if they contain errors. Users must resolve all issues before an automation can go live.
Who this affects
HighLevel has not confirmed who is affected by this update. This change appears to impact all users who build or edit workflows within HighLevel.
What changed
HighLevel now blocks the publishing of workflows if they contain unresolved configuration issues. If a workflow has errors, HighLevel shows where it is broken. Users can still save workflow progress even with errors present. Workflows cannot be published until all errors are resolved. Users can click into a flagged step to see and fix the issue. HighLevel has not confirmed any limits or plan gating for this feature. HighLevel has not confirmed the rollout status of this feature.
Where to find it
HighLevel has not confirmed the exact location for this feature. This functionality will likely appear directly within the workflow builder interface when attempting to publish a workflow with errors.
How agencies will use this
Previously, an agency could inadvertently publish a broken workflow, leading to automations that failed to execute for a client's leads or customers. For example, if a workflow step like 'Send SMS' had an unconfigured 'From Number' or a 'Create Opportunity' action missed a required 'Pipeline Stage', the workflow would publish and then fail silently or visibly. Now, when building a lead nurturing workflow for a new client in a sub-account, an agency owner setting up a 'Wait' step followed by an 'If/Else' condition based on a custom field will be blocked from publishing if that custom field is not properly defined or the conditional branches are incomplete. The system will flag the specific step, requiring the agency to configure the custom field or complete the 'If/Else' logic before the workflow can be made active. This prevents operational issues for the client from a poorly configured automation.
Our take
This is a standard improvement for the platform. It addresses a common source of user error and support tickets. While not a groundbreaking new feature, it improves workflow reliability and reduces troubleshooting time. This is a minor update that brings a common-sense check to workflow publishing. Agencies should note this prevents broken automations from going live, but it does not change how workflows are built, only how they are deployed.
